Stone Belt

Internship
Texacon Cut Stone
Summer 2014

Spending nine weeks in Bloomington, Indiana with a fantastic company, Texcaon Cut Stone. From day one all of their "cutters," planers, saw operators, and laborers were coming by and giving me advice and tips on how to improve the work I was doing.

Work consisted of, cleaning up various size moldings (using sand paper or pneumatic hammer), cutting slips with grinders, shoveling, moving stones in the shop or in the yard, and pitching of sandstone.

The pitching was a simple task except for the type of stone, sandstone. The blocks were approximately 30 inches on every side and the task was to rough one entire face. Did so with the pleasure of learning to dislike sandstone. If any power tools were used with the sandstone then we wore protective equipment.

Some of the pieces I personally did. Using mostly sand paper to clean the pieces I did during the summer; however, on some they allowed me to use the pneumatic air gun, saws to cut angles and slots, drills to drill different size holes, and "bugging" to finish the pieces off.

Thanks Mr. Norman and the rest of the group at Texacon.
